NEW IDAE MEASURES: SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY AND TRANSPORTATION PLANS TO WORK

The final objective of the IDAE (Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving) is the reduction of CO2 emissions and other substances harmful to the environment. For this reason, it covers areas that at first glance seem as disparate as building remodeling and supporting sustainable mobility.

The latter is what we will talk about today, since this organization has launched, in collaboration with CONAMA, a web portal (in addition to a guide with similar content and totally free) where the topic of sustainable mobility is discussed, especially focused on PTTs. (Transportation Plans to Work) For businesses.

This last fact is unquestionably important if we look at the impact that transportation has on energy levels. In addition to being the sector that consumes the most final power (42% of the national total), it also has a strong dependence on fuels of petroleum origin (more than 94% of the energy used for these purposes comes from fossil fuels) which are, as is already of popular knowledge, among those that generate the most harmful gas emissions (it is estimated that more than a quarter of CO2 emissions are due to the circulation of all types of vehicles).

The purpose of creating this page is to raise awareness of the need for mobility plans for both companies and individuals (although it focuses especially on the aforementioned PTT), inform about them and provide resources to users, opening their eyes to the importance of having dynamic cities and at the same time eco friendly.

Why are PTT's so important?

It is easy to see that the majority of transportation we do on a regular basis is to go to work. It is something that takes up a significant part of our time, so, at least, we dedicate a couple of trips a day to it and, many times, we do them in private vehicles. Statistics say that in Spain approximately 40 million daily transports are made for work-related purposes, and an alarming number of them are made in private cars and with a single occupant.

What are PTTs?

The PTT are a set of measures that the company would establish and that would require the collaboration of the workers. They consist of rationalizing the number of trips to work made by workers, suppliers and the like, as well as raising awareness of the need to lead a more sustainable life and proposing the use of means of transport that are less harmful to the environment.

What measures do they propose? The measures proposed are varied. They range from something as simple as carpooling to going to work by bike or public transportation. Most are simple and seem somewhat futile, but at a macroscopic level they can make a big difference.
