Iberdrola is committed to one of the largest onshore wind projects in Brazil

Through its Brazilian subsidiary Neoenergia, Iberdrola will invest 480 million euros in the construction of one of its largest onshore wind complexes in Latin America. It is called Oitis and will be made up of 12 parks that will add a combined installed capacity of 566.6 MW. A great bet that will help improve the use of renewable energies in Brazil and that represents a great advance in this sector.

This project will be located between the states of Piau and Bahia, in the Northeast of Brazil, and its start-up is scheduled for 2022. Oitis 1 and Oitis 8, two of the parks, have already guaranteed the sale of 30% of clean energy that you will generate, after an auction organized by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) last June. The rest of the facilities (the other 10) must negotiate the sale of their electricity production on the market.

Neoenergia has 516 MW of operational wind power and, if it has the Oitis complex, it has 1,038 MW of wind power under construction. When all the projects have been completed in 2022, it will add 1,600 MW of wind power at full capacity, thus tripling the current figure.

The construction of this large sustainable project will contribute to the economic and social development of the state in which it is built (Piauí) as well as the entire neighboring state of Bahia. This project continues to reinforce Iberdrola's global leadership in the renewable energy sector.

Promotion of renewable energies in Brazil

Iberdrola is betting on Brazil through Neoenergía and plans to invest around 30,000 million Brazilian reais, that is, around 6,500 euros over the next five years. It is an amount that will be allocated, basically, to the expansion and improvement of all distribution networks in the states of Bahia, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Matto Grosso do Sul, Sao Paulo... for the development of new transportation lines and for the construction of more wind farms.

To the investments made by this subsidiary of the Iberdrola group, which is listed on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange, new initiatives could be added derived from the auctions of generation lines and capacity that the Ministry of Mines and Energy wants to call in the coming years.

Currently, the company has a production capacity in the country of more than 3,700 MW, of which the 86% is renewable. And among all the clean energy facilities in Brazil, the Baixo Iguacu hydroelectric plant stands out, which was inaugurated last May by Galán, which has 350 MW and has achieved an investment of more than 500 million euros.

Iberdrola has almost 700,000 km of power lines, operated by the four companies integrated into Neoenergía: Cosern, Celpe, Coelba and Elektro.
